Group Art Exhibition & Initiatives centered on the concept of the “Front Page” and the “First News Item,” as presented in print and digital media.
The project unfolds in two parts, from May 2 to 11 and during the third ten-day period of the month at the
“Melina” Cultural Center of the City of Athens. It brings together 55 artists from Greece and abroad, as well as journalists, academics, and media professionals, in a dialogue between art and journalism.
The
FRONTPAGE PROJECT is co-organized by the
European Communication Institute and the
European Parliament Office in Greece, in collaboration with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), the
AxionArt artistic team, the
Institute of Mediterranean Culture, and is supported by the
City of Athens (OPANDA-Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the City of Athens). This project is an evolving interdisciplinary initiative exploring the impact of front pages and media on society and culture, transferring journalism to an artistic and conceptual level. It includes exhibitions, lectures, performances, video screenings, and a ‘counterpoint exercise,’ inviting the public to discover new interpretations of information, and the power of image and language.
Its aim is the artistic and dynamic expression that emerges from the collaboration of creators from the fields of visual arts and journalism/communications more broadly. Participants draw inspiration from newspaper front pages of their own choosing, as well as major stories from domestic and international print and online press. These "front pages" act as canvases for creation, commentary, expression, and artistic stance.
As part of the exhibition, on
May 3, 2025, a
symposium will take place dedicated to
World Press Freedom Day, with the participation of renowned journalists, academics, and art specialists, on the topic:
“Art in the Age of Headlines: Frontpage Dialogues”
In the third ten-day period of May, a debate will be held between university student groups on the theme:
“Beyond the FrontPage: What Remains Unseen”
Debate on Media, Fake News and the Art of News Hierarchies
The Athens exhibition will serve as a prelude to the next stage of the initiative, which involves the participation of creators and communication professionals from Central and Southern Europe, and will be hosted in Vienna in 2027.
Academic institutions contributing research and artistic work include: University of West Attica (Departments of Graphic Design & Visual Communication and Interior Architecture), Cyprus University of Technology, Department of Fine Arts (TEPAK), Athens School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (School of Fine Arts), Ionian University (Postgraduate Program in Audio & Visual Arts), University of the Peloponnese (Department of Performing and Digital Arts), Mediators Group, Danube University Krems (UWK), Austria.

Heroic City of Naoussa, presenting upcoming actions in collaboration with the
FRONTPAGE organizers and the
Journalists’ Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers (ESIEMTH).

European Communication Institute, to be signed on
May 26, and the ongoing
