At the core of the installation is the image of a tree, reinterpreted through the visual and material language of cinema. The steel trunk refers to the technological and industrial foundation of film, while hundreds of strips of film form its sculptural canopy.

Cinema is often remembered through films, directors, actors, and iconic images. This installation introduces another essential participant into that narrative - the viewer.

A film may begin with its creators, but its life continues through those who watch it. Each viewer brings their own memories, emotions, and lived experience to the screen, and after the lights come back on, carries a fragment of the film away with them.

Without the viewer, cinema remains incomplete.

Inspired by the universal symbolism of the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge, the installation views cinema as a space where stories, emotions, and human experience are preserved and passed from generation to generation. The concept also draws on the work of filmmaker Agnès Varda and her deeply human approach to memory, everyday life, and the connection between cinema and lived experience.

For Yuri Goncharov, The Tree of Cinema continues an artistic practice that combines sculpture, engineering, production, and conceptual thinking on an architectural scale. Here, material and structure are used not merely to create an object, but to give physical form to the intangible connection between cinema, memory, and collective experience.
