Lena Kardash is a contemporary painter born in the Soviet Union and based in Madrid. Her practice focuses on the growing complexity and interconnectedness of contemporary reality and on how these conditions shape human perception and experience.
Trained in architecture and art, Kardash brings a structural way of thinking to painting.

Working primarily in oil on linen, she builds her images through thin, translucent layers, moving between clearly defined forms and areas of ambiguity. Focus, fragmentation, and varying degrees of visibility allow some elements to emerge while others recede, making perception itself part of the work.

Rather than working within a fixed subject or genre, Kardash approaches the image as a system of relationships between objects, spaces, layers of information, and different levels of attention. Her ongoing project Density Limit develops these concerns through the idea of an increasingly dense world, in which people, objects, technologies, information, histories, and systems become progressively more connected and interdependent.

Kardash is interested not in complexity as chaos, but in the condition that emerges when interconnectedness itself becomes an essential part of how reality is experienced. Her work asks how painting can make this complexity perceptible without simply illustrating it and how the individual, the particular, and the human can remain visible in a world where almost nothing exists in isolation.
