BIO

Victoria Udalova is a contemporary figurative artist based in L’Albir, Spain. Through the image of the contemporary beach as a space of collective experience, her practice explores memory, corporeality, human presence, and the perception of time.

Born in Volgograd, Russia, Udalova received an academic art education at the Bogolyubov Art College in Saratov before graduating from the Department of Artistic Ceramics at the Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry. She has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists since the late 1990s.

Before devoting herself fully to her artistic practice, Udalova worked in architecture and interior design for more than twenty years. In 2001, she founded her own design studio in Moscow, completing numerous projects for public and private spaces. This experience shaped her sensitivity to space, light, and perception, which remains integral to her artistic approach.

Since 2016, Udalova has focused entirely on painting. Her work has been presented in international exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Italy since 2019.

Since 2022, she has been developing the long-term research project Sun. Sea. Sand, which considers the beach not as a place of leisure, but as a cultural model of contemporary existence - a space where the relationships between the human body, time, memory, and the experience of presence become especially visible.
Her works are held in private collections in Spain, Russia, Italy, and Indonesia.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT

The time of information technologies, computer graphics and conceptual art, where the viewer can only guess what the artist wanted to depict, has formed a stable stereotype that figurative painting is not relevant. An art event, installation, or performance is certainly better liked. But, in the artist's opinion, in the race for likes and views, many fell into the trap of the moment, what young people call "HYIP".
At art school, Victoria realized that painting would be the main business of her life, and at the age of 15, she left home to enroll in the Saratov art school. Over the years of study and becoming the inspiration for Victoria was the V. Serov, M. Vrubel, N. Feshin.
One of the main rules of life of the artist Viktoria Udalova is "if you allow yourself to think that something is too difficult, then this fear will settle in you and the difficult will become impossible for you". Victoria has always been engaged in difficult tasks that give her the opportunity to grow.
